What to check on a pre-owned safe
A pre-owned safe can be a practical way to get a rated safe for a business, a jeweler or a collector when a new one is not the right fit. The things that matter most are the same as for any safe: the rating, the condition, and who stands behind it after the sale.
- The rating: check the UL label and the model, because a rating belongs to the safe as it was built and tested
- The condition: door fit, bolt work, relockers, lock and any signs of attack or repair
- The combination: change it after purchase, because you do not know who has had the old one
- Delivery and installation: heavy safes need the right equipment and a plan for the path in
